1/5/2024 0 Comments Cheetah3d vs blenderI do love Bl and the fact that such a powerful toy is brought to the masses for free but, seriously, every time I want to use it there's a new build, and a new. you're not a total hobbyst or someone who doesn't care wasting his/her time - I don't want to sound rude here, wasting time is a wonderful thing but only when you want to.!) then Cheetah is *way* cheaper than Bl imho Some quick notes I'd like to add in case you care/need more.ġ) you can't beat Bl price (free!) but really Cheetah3D is worth well more than the mere 99$ it costs imhoĢ) Bl is free but if your time has even a min value (i.e. If you're an expert, use better software. If you're not an expert, Blender is hard to learn and remember. If you're someone who makes your day-to-day living working in 3D, then you should be using a serious 3D package such as Maya, Lightwave, Houdini, Max, Modo, zBrush, or whatever and this conversation is moot. In particular, I think someone who knows Blender backwards and has memorized dozens of keyboard shortcuts and customized the UI just how they like it - in short, an expert user who "lives" in Blender - will probably be more productive than a C3D user and have more power at his/her disposal. In my experience, C3D is easier to learn and remember than Blender 2.5+ and much easier than Blender 2.49-, but YMMV. Apple went so far as give my Cube to one of the guys in ATS for use as his daily machine for a week to replicate my issues, and it worked fine - in a nice air conditioned office. I remember my Cube (yes I bought a Cube) had all kinds of nasty issues running in my (non-airconditioned) apartment in Sydney. In the US, it's very rare not to be airconditioned down to 75☏ (24☌) or less, and perhaps Apple's assumptions are skewed to this assumption. I also think Apple is a little naive about ambient temperatures. It's also possible your fans are coming on but they're quiet, and the machine is still running hot (goodness knows my Macbook Pros get pretty hot even with the fan going). That said, PCs are pretty unreliable so it's a low bar.) (All this stuff about how all Gen 1/2 iMacs cook themselves within a year is nutty - Apple has consistently topped reliability indices for as long as I can remember. If your Mac is running hot and the fans aren't coming on it's a big problem and not right. Most of the heat generated in a modern computer comes not from the CPUs but the GPUs, so rendering (which is heavy on the CPU but nothing on the GPU, at least with C3D) shouldn't be as big a deal as, say, playing Diablo III.
